Smile for others
” We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.” Mother Teresa
Many people convince themselves that they are unable to change things.
Perhaps you know the story of the hummingbird? No one can bear the weight of the world on their shoulders but everyone can simply do their part. Kindness and goodwill have the wonderful characteristic of being contagious. It is very hard to frown at someone who smiles. Have you ever observed the reaction of a person for whom you held the door open for? He will most likely hold the door open for the next person. Each of our words and actions can have a butterfly effect and may change the word.
Smile for yourself
“I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself.” Aldous Huxley
This act of smiling engages up to 42 facial muscles and has a deep impact on our psyche. Indeed, smiling activates a reward mechanism in our brain which is the same as chocolate. According to scientists, smiling regularly decreases the level of stress hormones such as cortisol, and reduces blood pressure. Smiling makes us look more beautiful and younger.
World Wide Smile is a travel project, it is the connecting thread of our trans-atlantic experience. But it is also an experiment – combining the power of smiling with the power of the web and social networks in order to spread the “smile” attitude.
To take part to this positive contamination, it’s easy! Just join the project!
Hélène & Charlotte
Two friends who share a passion for photography, travelling and meeting people. We have been lucky enough to travel to many countries, both for studies and for work.
We like tasting food (and we love the Vietnamese “ché” that looks gelatinous but yummy), music that makes you want to dance (viva Colombia, the country where you can hear music anywhere, all the time) and playing cards while waiting for being served at the restaurant (you’d rather be patient in Bolivia). We believe in optimism, enthusiasm and open mindedness to perform small miracles every day.
Our geek friend living in Australia who is helping us a lot to make our dream come true. Our website looks awesome thanks to him, thank you so much Sami!
